Snow Emergency Declaration - February 24th 2022
Anytime a SNOW EMERGENCY is DECLARED you are
required to remove all vehicles from the street.
Vehicles not removed from the street may cause you to be cited by law enforcement officers for violation of local ordinance.  PLEASE comply with this requirement, as it enables our winter maintenance contractor to do his job smoothly and without hindrance.
The contractor is required under the Borough's Winter Maintenance contract
to plow curb-to-curb.
Jacobus Borough Officials appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
(Please refer to Article I of Jacobus Borough's Vehicles and Traffic Ordinance, which
gives the Mayor the power to temporarily regulate traffic and parking in the
case of a natural event and in time of emergencies.)
Temporary regulations are enforced by Jacobus Borough's contracted law enforcement agency, and violators upon conviction, shall be liable to the penalty set forth in the law and subject to fines and related costs.

You should assume if the local forecast is calling for an event that will cause
hazardous (road) conditions and/or an accumulation of snow or ice,
an emergency declaration WILL be issued.
PLEASE keep your vehicles off of the street.

Helpful Suggestions
To reduce the amount of snow being windrowed back into your cleared driveway by the snowplows, Jacobus Borough suggests clearing snow from the street approximately 20' back from your driveway along the street.  This will help prevent and greatly reduce the amount of snow that windrows off the plow as it passes by your driveway.

MARK YOUR PROPERTY LINES!  Jacobus Borough highly recommends that you mark your property lines with reflective markers.  This helps to provide a guideline for the drivers of the snow removal equipment as, according to their contract, they are required to plow curb to curb.

YOU ARE IN VIOLATION OF BOROUGH ORDINANCES IF...
(Please refer to Article III, Snow and Ice Removal, in
Jacobus Borough's "Streets and Sidewalks" Ordinance and
Article I, Temporary and Emergency Regulations, in
Jacobus Borough's "Vehicles and Traffic" Ordinance)
  • you deposit or cause to be deposited, any snow or ice on or immediately next to a fire hydrant, or upon any sidewalk, roadway or loading & unloading areas of a public transportation system.
  • you do not remove your vehicle from the street when a snow emergency is declared.
  • you do not clear your sidewalks to a minimum width of 36" within 24 hours after cessation of the precipitation.
